The Family Behind the Farm

Blue Frog Truffles is Wayne, Lanie, Damian, and Justin Haslam — a family who planted their first truffle trees in 2003 on a quiet block of land just north of Canberra, five kilometres from the ACT border. They did not come from farming. They came from curiosity, stubbornness, and a belief that Australian soil could produce world-class truffles.

The first harvest arrived in 2007. By then the farm had grown to 4.5 hectares of English oaks and hazelnuts, and Wayne was already deep into the work of building something bigger than a single farm.

We Didn't Just Grow Truffles — We Helped Build an Industry

Wayne was a founding member of the Australian Truffle Growers Association in 2006, bringing growers together at a time when most were working in isolation. In 2009, the family helped launch the Canberra Region Truffle Festival, putting the local industry in front of chefs, food writers, and the public. And in 2016, Wayne co-founded EAT Truffle — a marketing cooperative that gives small-holder growers across NSW and the ACT a way to reach customers they could never reach alone.

This matters because truffle farming is hard. Trees take years to produce. Harvests depend on weather you cannot control. Small growers need each other, and the Haslams have spent two decades making sure that support exists.
